Working and Living in Estonia

Labor market

According to countryvv, everyone in the fields of occupational therapy, media design and educational professions has a good chance of getting a job or maybe even an internship. But craftsmen and carpenters are also wanted. Because the problem in Estonia is that many Estonians go abroad and therefore there is a shortage of skilled workers. However, one has to keep in mind that working hours in Estonia are considerably longer than in Western Europe, but earnings are lower.

In Hamburg there is an association called “Work and Life” (founded in 1999). This association offers various internships over 3 months in the Baltic States. A good opportunity to get to know the country.

During an internship, a place to live in a shared apartment is made available and some kind of pocket money is paid from a fund of the European Union. Experience shows that many of the interns decide to stay in the country and that Estonian employers are happy to take them on.

Emigration and living in Estonia

For those who like the harsh climate and can adjust to a lower standard of living, Estonia may be a good choice. But you should definitely learn the national language Estonian before you emigrate, because it is absolutely necessary for communication. Some advantages: Relatively safe from natural disasters, free of nuclear power, lots of forest, low cost of living (LHK-I 77.7), low population density.
