Tips to Cope With the Anxiety of Back-to-School

The move to a new school, the fear of not having friends and the fear of not having success in school can cause feelings of anxiety return to school.

There are children who suffer with the anxiety of the return to classes.

After the holidays, the return to routines will close and return the problems, fears, and agitations that are associated with the return to school. The move to a new school, the fear of not having friends, and the fear of not having success in school can cause feelings of fear, anguish and insecurity.

Help them in the smooth change from home to school is a great way to observe and help the growth and well-being, building their confidence and self-esteem.

When approaching the day of return to school, the child may display some of the signs:
  • Cry;
  • Irritability and bad mood;
  • Having nightmares;
  • Have decreased or increased appetite;
  • Isolate themselves or cling to their parents;
  • Complain of headaches or tummy.

A positive experience during the school years is fundamental to the development of an adult, confident and sure of himself. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to do with this stage is the last in a healthy way, contributing to the cognitive development and psychological of the child.

To overcome this anxiety there are some tips that parents can use.

THE ANXIETY OF BACK-TO-SCHOOL ON YOUNG CHILDREN

In the first place it is essential to adapt to the language and immaturity of the child. When you talk to your small child, it is important to download or sit to be level with him.

USE AND ABUSE OF THE IMAGINATION, CONVEYING CONFIDENCE AND SECURITY:

  1. Can offer a doll that the child can deposit their fears and worries throughout the day;
  2. Tell your son how much he likes him and that he believes that he will overcome the fears will have many friends to play with;
  3. Encourage them to create relationships and play with the other children;
  4. Tell him that you will seek and that you will be able to count all the new stuff of the day.

WHEN YOU PICK UP YOUR CHILD:

  1. Show curiosity, pride and appreciation for the things that he did throughout the day;
  2. Show interest for what he will learn in the following days;
  3. Teach him new things so that you can share with the class, feeling special among their peers.

SOCIALIZE WITH “STRANGERS”:

  1. Meet and greet with the parents and the boys of the class at school or outside school. Thus, the child feels that they are not strangers and learns to act before the people, through our example.

IN THE HOUSE:

  1. Set a time to share the day;
  2. Children express their anxiety in returning to school through their jokes. Play with your child and help them to solve the problems demonstrated in the game.

THE ANXIETY OF BACK-TO-SCHOOL IN THE OLDER CHILD

Remember that your child may not always want to talk, but it will record everything that you say. This is why it is important to consider the words used and address their difficulties without criticism or demonstrate too much importance.

TRANSMIT TO YOU WITH CONFIDENCE:

  1. Tell him that you trust in their ability to cope with the anxiety of the return to school;
  2. Remember that it is normal to feel nervous and that is a phase that will pass when you feel more at ease with colleagues;
  3. Look for solutions to this problem together, helping you identify what it is that would make him more confident.

ASK FOR HELP:

  1. Take advantage of the special relationship your child has with other people that they will help see things from another perspective. Not culpabilize for not being able to have a confident approach to the problems of his son. There are no perfect parents;
  2. Encourage them to take classes in self-defense, or some activity that you enjoy doing. This will help in building their self-esteem.
