This drive is suitable for families who want to go on adventures together in Florida. Enjoy the tropical climate of South Beach, Miami. After Miami, the journey goes through the Everglades, which is home to a fantastic plant and animal life. In this area there is, among other things, the opportunity to see alligators, deer, otters and about 200 different bird species. Then drive to some of Florida’s most amazing beaches in the Fort Myers area, where sea turtles will lay their eggs each year. On the way to Orlando you pass charming seaside resorts where beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear water characterize the landscape. After this, wait a few days at the theme parks in Orlando with plenty of entertainment.
Day 1: Departure from Scandinavia and arrival in Miami
Departure from Scandinavia to Miami with arrival the same day. After picking up your car, drive to your hotel in Miami. Miami is a vibrant and multicultural city, which is especially evident in the city’s restaurants and architecture. Miami’s South Beach is best known for its beautiful beaches, swaying palm trees, art deco style, fantastic shopping and gourmet restaurants. Here you have a relaxed atmosphere and a good mix of tourists and locals. Several TV series and movies have been recorded here.
Day 2: Relaxation and sun vacation in Miami
This day is for exploring Miami beach and the surrounding area. In downtown Miami are Bayside Marketplace and Coconut Grove, known for their many and varied restaurants and cafes, as well as Coral Gables and Little Havana, the latter a popular area among the Cuban section of the population. In addition, Little Havana is known for Calle Ocho, Domino Park and the area’s social, cultural and political activities.
Day 3: Miami Beach to Fort Myers (256 km)
Leave beautiful Miami Beach and Everglades National Park. The area in and around the Everglades has a fantastic flora and fauna. Also visit the Shark Valley and take a trip by swamp boat, where you get a chance to see alligators, deer, otters and around 200 different bird species. Afterwards, it is possible to see an alligator show and visit an alligator farm where over 100 alligators and crocodiles live. Continue to Fort Myers Beach where you will spend the night. Fort Myers and the nearby islands are home to some of Florida’s most stunning beaches. The beaches are a paradise for many bird species and not least for sea turtles, which come here to lay eggs every year. In the central part of the area you will find a large selection of restaurants.
Day 4-5: Relaxation at Fort Myers Beach
Enjoy your day at the beach in Fort Myers or take an excursion to the idyllic islands at Lovers Key State Park. There are beautiful, white sandy beaches and you can either spend some nice hours there or rent a kayak or bike and explore the surroundings. You can also take the car to Sanibel Island, where the United States’ largest natural mangrove ecosystem is located. It is home to many different species of birds, fish, dolphins, alligators, manatees and pelicans. Every Sunday between October and May, you can buy everything from delicatessen cheeses, fresh fruit, freshly baked bread, tempting pastries, local honey and freshly caught fish at the Sanibel Island Farmers Market. On the outskirts of Fort Myers, animal and nature lovers can see, among other things, alligators, otters and birds in the Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. It 1375 hectares large, The green outdoor area is best seen on a guided tour where a local naturalist talks about flora and fauna. Children and adults with a childlike mind can go on a fun excursion and learn more about the park’s inhabitants. If you prefer to explore the area on your own, you can follow marked paths around the park. In Great Calusa Blueway, the whole family can kayak or try SUP – Stand Up Paddleboard in the footsteps of the Calusa Indians, enjoy the beautiful surroundings and experience the wingspan of history.
Day 6: Fort Myers Beach to Orlando (405 km)
Before leaving Fort Myers, you have the opportunity to visit some of the area’s most popular attractions. Go on a guided tour of the Edison / Ford Winter Homes or relax and enjoy the beautiful beaches of the area. Then continue toward Orlando via the Coast Road, which takes you through the charming seaside resorts of Sarasota, Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island. Each of these areas has its own charm, but what they all have in common is that they have beautiful sandy beaches and crystal clear water. When you come to Orlando you can visit Downtown Disney.
Day 7-8: On an adventure in Orlando
Welcome to the mecca of amusement parks. During the next two days, you can decide your own itinerary, according to which sights you want to see in the city.
Magic Kingdom Park – Meet Mickey Mouse and his friends in Magic Kingdom Park, where Walt Disney’s lively imagination comes to life. There are lots to enjoy for children and for you with the childish mind left. See Cinderella’s castle on Main Street, which also tries to create a dream image of what the United States looked like almost a hundred years ago. Also visit Adventureland, Frontierland, Liberty Square and Tomorrowland. The hair-raising Haunted Mansion is also worth a visit, and do not miss to ride the exciting and famous Space Mountain. In Mickey’s Toontown you can enjoy spectacular fireworks with lots of light and sound effects.
Universal Studios Florida– Join “Men in Black: Alien Attack” and shoot aliens as you chase them down the streets of New York. Dive into the dark with the exciting ride “Revenge of the Mummy” and see its special effects. Here you can also see Shrek in 4D. You will see, hear and feel the action directly from your place. Fly with ET on his bike and help him save his home planet at the same time. In Wizarding World of Harry Potter you get to experience magic. Universal Studios has something that appeals to children of all ages.
Universals Islands of Adventure– Visit five remarkable islands, where myths, legends from cartoons and movie heroes come to life. Step into Spider-Man’s fantastic adventure, where you fight evil and experience the adventure as if it were real. Steer the cow towards Seuss Island and walk through the pages of the famous children’s book “The cat in the hat”. At Lost Continent you will find Dueling Dragons. Discover all the pioneering rides and see the stories come to life on Universal’s Islands of Adventure.
Disney’s Epcot– Visit Epcot’s two entertaining worlds, namely Future World and World Showcase. In Future World you will find attractions such as Spaceship Earth, where you can experience a journey through time, from the beginning of time to today. You can entertain yourself with the innovative inventions of Future World for many hours. In the World Showcase you get to experience the cultures of 11 nations, and the architecture and landscape change as you move from one country to another. Taste the restaurants’ tasty dishes, shop and entertain yourself with the many different attractions available here.
Day 9: Orlando – Miami International Airport
Enjoy the last morning in Orlando before driving to Miami International Airport. After a 9 day trip in Florida, the trip goes home. The time depends on when your flight departs.
