When is the Time to Change Smartphone?

The first thing I do in the morning when I wake up is to check if my phone is in my bed, and I always end up watching a YouTube video or reading the latest technology news on the breakfast table. That’s how I’m connected to my smartphone, even knowing that the last thing I did the night before was surfing the web before I went to sleep. I can not live without my phone. Yeah, I’m a nerd. Being a heavy user of smartphones and a tech news junkie, I am aware of the latest specifications and features that the latest smartphone can offer. A tempting spec sheet and interesting advertisement are always calling the nerd inside me, while the price was the only thing that kept me away from them.

So a very common question comes up in my life: when should I think of a new phone? It is a very problematic issue, but today we will break this question into groups.

If it is not broke, do not fix it!

A common sense, but it’s true. It is an example of simple advice, which we simply forget, within our will to buy new things of technology. Keep the device at least until it really does not work properly anymore, and what I meant by not working properly plus a real anomaly where you can not fix it easily. Small scratches, dust, or lack of new features does not count as an anomaly. An obsolete device that still works properly is still a functional device, so I really do not recommend you go buy a new phone for no reason.

What you need against what you want

New features were those perfectly handled to make them look extremely fun and interesting to have on your device, especially if you can show them to your family, friends or even neighbors. I understand you, my friend, I feel the same way, believe me. But now that I think about it, how often will you need to use these features on a daily basis? Some people may need to use certain resources regularly for their work or study, but for other regular users, those were just bonuses to brag from time to time. You will use these resources less and lessevery day, and before you know it, you will find yourself not using any of these features. That was just a satisfaction that is not absolutely necessary. Knowing which features you need and which you can bury is very important. You can start by identifying the things that you do most on your Smartphone. Ask yourself, do you really need all the new features they offer on latest smartphones?

When is the Time to Change Smartphone

We’ll never have enough

No matter what or how many phones you have, no matter how amazing it is, in 6 months or less, you will find yourself in the craving for more features, more processing cores, more memory, more storage space, larger screen, thin rim, elegant design or even one that completes your collection of smartphones. You never lose these impulses, it’s natural. With the rapid growth of technology and innovation, we live in a world of technological wars to the point where the consumer can not win because they have been forced to always buy the latest and greatest out there. Ad is your poison, and the people around you are your enemies. Try to know for sure why you need to buy a new smartphone: was it just because you feel dissatisfied with your current ownership, or because your productivity was limited by the current device? Make sure your desire to buy a new phone does not exceed the value of your precious cents.

Timing is everything

Hundreds of new handsets are launched every year. There are always new phones that have been advertised every month, even every week. So, if you really need to move to a newer one, when is the right time? Some people may say that it is now or never. Buy now, do not look back, and make sure you’ll love the phone the way it is for a long time. They are correct, but there is one thing I would recommend you. If you happen to plan on buying a main device from a company and you’re not in a race, it’s wise to know about your launch cycle in the first place. Top-of-the-line phones usually come once a year. If the latest version of the phone you want is usually launched by the end of the year, and if you are two or three months away, so I recommend you wait a little longer. Be patient while doing some research and searching for more information. You will be happier to buy a new version of the phone or at least buy a much cheaper version earlier.

Final considerations

Smartphone will soon become a primary need for everyone. It is thoughtful to know when you really need to buy a new one instead of wasting your money in vain because you simply want new unnecessary but cool features. Knowing that we are very fragile to temptations, it is good to have a strong reason to cling to protect oneself from the wills. Hopefully this can be a lesson for each and every one of us. I know it’s not as easy as it may sound, but at least it’s another thing to keep in mind for our future reference.

Now let’s start saving some money, we never know when we might need to spend some in case something happens. Be that something an iPhone 6 or a real financial need.
