What Kind of Flash is Better in Cell Phone Cameras?

Even camera phones with Xenon flash come on the scene, we had to live with low intensity lights and low quality LED. Times have changed and imaging technologies have evolved. The image sensors in the camera phones are now able to capture images with greater sensitivity up to ISO 1600, that is, an excellent absorption of light from the environment. This helps to some extent, but not without the addition of noise in the images when shooting in low light. On many occasions, we still need a beam of light as an aid to illuminate our affairs. That’s where a Xenon flash or LED comes in handy for today’s smartphones.

The very bright flash drive type found in more autonomous digital cameras, and some high-end camera phones. Xenon flashes are usually much brighter than the LED type found on many camera phones.

A xenon flash consists of a small glass tube filled with xenon gas. When a very high voltage current of electricity is applied, the tube emits a very bright ray of white light, but very brief.

This short”blink” of light is good for the”freeze” motion on photos, reducing blur. However, it also means that the Xenon flash can not be used to illuminate the video capture or be used as a flashlight, as many do nowadays.

LED(Light-Emitting Diode)

A small semiconductor device that emits light when charged with electricity. LEDs come in various colors, and some LEDs contain multiple elements and therefore are capable of multiple colors.

LEDs are most commonly used for lights that illuminate keypads and service/message indicator lights. LEDs are also often used for backlighting of LCD screens, improving contrast.

Bright white LEDs can provide a flashlight function, something that xenon can not.

Recently, bright white LEDs have also been used to provide a flash function for mobile phones. A flash of the LED camera is usually not as bright as the xenon technology used in independent cameras. Some LED flashes are brighter than others, however(up to 20 times brighter in some cases).

LED flashes remain on for a period of time, unlike the extremely brief”blinks” of light produced by Xenon technology. This means that Xenon is better at”freezing” for photos, but LEDs can be used to illuminate video capture.
