Recall of Toys of Long Jump Should Occur

To ingest certain parts of the product, some substances become the drug GHB, a powerful sedative

International agencies reported this afternoon that millions of toys made in China were collected in the United States and Australia after being found that they contained a substance linked to the drug GHB (Gamma-Hydroxybutyric Acid), a powerful sedative, which is illegal.

To ingest certain parts of the product, some substances are transformed in the drug. Five children were hospitalized (in the United States and in Australia) after swallowing beads from the toy, which is also distributed in Brazil. Here, however, was not announced recall.

“The responsibility of the importer is the same as the manufacturer, so the recall should have been made along with the other countries.” The phrase is the Executive Coordinator of the Instituto Brasileiro de Defesa do Consumidor (Idec), Marilena Lazzarini, in relation to the delay of the recall announcement by the company Long Jump, importer of Bindeez toy line.

The company Long Jump must announce immediately the recall, since matter for Brazil the Bindeez product line, which has been the target of recall in Australia, USA and Canada.

Marilena Lazzarini also States that “If you do not yet have confirmation of the problem with the products sold in Brazil, the Long Jump should at least ask for the suspension of sales until it is confirmed the information. Similarly, should recommend that these toys are away from children”.

If they are confirmed the problems in toys, the company must make an official recall, communicating all the accidents that occurred in other countries.

In addition to the importer and of the manufacturer, traders are also liable jointly and severally for the immediate withdrawal of the product from shelves and in possible cases of accident.

Due to recent problems in the country, last Tuesday (06/11) Idec held a roundtable to discuss the recall process in Brazil. Are present at the event representatives of the National Institute of metrology, standardization and Industrial quality (Inmetro), Department of consumer protection and Defence (DPDC), national health surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and Procons, being the unanimous understanding that requires the creation of a unified system of procedures to implement recalls in the country according to Rctoysadvice.

“This new case with problems in Brazil only reaffirms the need to establish such a system as soon as possible. So, the Idec will submit to the Ministers a request for support and acceleration of this system, “concludes Lazzarini.
