Octave improved 12/02 only 40 SE (4100 euros) the legendary V 40 from folder with the V, or control the Badener new spheres of sound?

Normal way tends the octave-chef Andreas Hofmann on Ernst and restraint. But with the passing of the V 40 SE but a proud smile face scurried the Karlovy Vary. And he admits: “It even surprised me, what I still could tease out the actually minimalist concept of the V 40.”

Octave delivers the V 40 SE for 4100 euros as the test pattern with four noble 6550 by Svetlana, there is less an economy version with the less powerful EL 34 for 300 euro. The manufacturer expressly also experiments with other base-same power tubes, about allows 6 L 6, 88, 90 KT KT, KT100 and others. Extra therefore brings the V with the possibility of not only 40 SE, rather to set this or that color change to the quiescent current of red, yellow and green light-emitting diodes.
The toggle option for love running the output stages with pure relatively low, stabilized screen grid voltage of 250 volts. With the relatively low potential (other manufacturers go up to 400 volts) this additional electrode not so much accelerated sales of negatively charged electrons, due to what’s less gain. As already the V 40, also the SE has noble transformers with PMZ core that almost completely covers the winding (10/07), and a highly secure processing of the anode voltage into two halves. Even with the condensers acting directly on the tube, he built significantly higher capacitances and loss of poorer, even sinfully expensive (at the cathode of the driver) professional tantalum types. This leads to even more advantageous properties of sound in his opinion (see interview).
The new octave sounded in fact clear in the listening room. So, about Sandra wool aschs voice from the CD “So together” (Duke records) appeared much more finely nuanced about the bulging swaying bass, inspired and lively. The fear that sharpening may occur so merciless openness, soon proved unfounded.
On the contrary, especially when “Let Me Out” Sandra formed acoustic yet gentle, the English “th” rather gentle, the “d” with echterem, even softer tongue. At the oldie comparatively always a veil over all these subtleties – had a thin, but just a veil.
The V 40 SE worked not only with voices finer, he grabbed the individual E-Piano sounds more delicate, more or less with kid gloves – so how small she stars were allowed to sparkle even more intensively and more beautiful.
In classical music, such as the second piano concerto by Johannes Brahms (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Telarc CD) the delicate violins of SE was gently and not too far in the background, while the veteran she almost violently in the background expressed.
What music, V 40 and also the stronger V 70 (test 1/04) attempted rather to serve a nice total package the listener; the new, much more took care of the individual sound components. In this respect 40 SE has managed the V clear jumping proud two points upwards.

Andreas Hofmann: Yes, to higher activation in case of best naturalness.
stereoplay: How can the master do that?
Andreas Hofmann: I optimize the layout until the amplifier with only minimal feedback comes from. So I get more independence of the distortion behavior of the complex speaker load.
stereoplay: What mechanisms do you see there?
Andreas Hofmann: The feedback is based on a differential pressure of output with the input signal, which isn’t perfect but works due to the phase shift. At worst, it comes to transient glitches.
