How to Choose a Fishing Hook

The Leaded Head

With the arrival of the lure, the fishermen saw the rays fulfill an essential accessory for this fishing: The leaded head! The range is amazing and it is often difficult to choose. From classic head specialist head made only an illusion, shapes, sizes, fitting out and often their color, we are spoiled for choice.

Basically, the leaded head can effectively propel a lure and then, depending on the weight, to develop it to the desired depth. But nowadays the choice is more technical: the leaded head can influence the lure swim, presentation of ice fishing bait on the bottom but also beautify our lure with details close to reality.

So why such a choice, and in what circumstances choose a leaden head over another? This is what I will try to explain in this article.

What weight, for what situation?

Surely the party or novice angler encounter the most problems! The choice of weight depends on many factors:

-The depth of the fishing zone

-The flow

-The type of fishing

-The type of lure

Fishing lure is usually done by animating the lure near the bottom, your choice will in this light without clamping the lure. So you need to find the lightest weight while remaining close to the bottom!

For a classic fishing, some fishermen apply the rule of one gram per meter while for vertical fishing, they increase the water level by two to obtain the basis weight after must be adjusted with the current, wind, the waves if you are a boat! A rather complicated rule to apply because you must know the depth of water, boat okay but the edge….

Personally according to the type of fishing I do not use the same sealed, here is an order not fixed idea!

linear Fishing:

-Up to 5m = 3 to 7g

-From 5 to 10m = 7 to 15gr

-10m and more 15 to 25gr

vertical fishing:

-Up to 5m = 10 to 15gr

-From 5 to 10m = 15 to 20gr

-10m and more 20 to 30gr

Rules that adjust according to the situation, current, wind, braid diameter!

The shape of the leaded head!

The shapes of jig heads allow a particular action well in water, it is important to understand to use them wisely!

The head round leaded types: Probably one of the first forms of head used by fishermen. Ideal for linear peaches or broadcast. It affects very few swimming the lure and is used in many situations. Moreover it is very cheap.

The head leaden shoe types: particularly suited to prospect close to the bottom, it remains stable on it and can perform various activities such as tremors and small vibrations.

The leaded head flat and curved: Changes swim the lure by giving it a side hovering to see some light oscillation.

The armament of the leaded head

In weapons, I mean the hook (shape and size) and the eyelet. Arming can play a role in swimming the lure, the attack predators and animation!

The hook: If it is too large relative to the size of the lure it bridera swim of it, if it is too small failures are many. Quality is also critical: VMC and Owner hooks are reputed and solid! Some heads are equipped with articulated hooks, this flange little luring and offers a more attractive swim. Finally some heads are equipped with Texan hooks, ideal for very crowded areas!

Carnation: The position of the eye influences the swim and the presentation of the lure. A central eyelet for vertical fishing, an eyelet on the back for a perfect balance while an eye on the front allow prospecting horizontally!
