As there are different prices and qualities in all sectors, how to choose a correct fixture for every occasion and able to distinguish the wheat from the chaff among the multitude of market is no easy task. In this post we are going to detail a little bit what are the key components of a LED luminaire to try to make sure what we really do a good investment in the betting by a LED luminaire.
The 5 key elements of a LED luminaire are basically: Chip, the driver or power supply, motherboard, heat from the fixture management system and finally of the lens. The basis of these elements is essential to ensure our lights:

The LED chip is made of a semiconductor material (silicon carbide) about 5 millimeters, able to generate light when applied to it current. The chip is the true heart of a LED luminaire. The heat dissipation is perhaps one of the most unknown keys for the functioning and duration of LED luminaires. If LEDs do not emit heat (called cold light), but that does not mean that the luminaire does not generate heat and is precisely that heat management is what influences the duration and operation of the LED lamp. In the case of LEDs, heat (unlike an incandescent bulb) comes out in the direction of the light. For this reason, it is necessary to “extract” that heat, since up to 90% of energy can become lost.
A good heat dissipation will extend the life of the chip. For this purpose the use of materials in accordance with the power and use of the luminaire and a design that favors dissipation of heat is key. The heat can also affect the colour and the quality of the light.
The outer casing is also important in this regard. Is important to be a lightweight material (aluminium or magnesium), and that its design favors dissipation of heat.
